Location of work

We work primarily in the state of Tamil Nadu with 40 villages to raise awareness and help solve issues on health, education and youth development. Our community development initiative is currently focused in rural areas of Kancheepuram district: Maduranthakam Taluk, mainly in Lattur and Maduranthakam blocks

Model and approach

Kalanjiyam forms a village committee (VC) in every adopted village, consisting of core set of members from local villages to act as change agents for driving process of development. The VC works to identify priorities, planning and implementation of Kalanjiyam programs and works together with local leaders, link persons identified in each of our villages and other community members, to ensure involvement and ownership in the programs.

Kalanjiyam acts as a catalyst to drive rural communities into action empowering them with information, skill building and support to strengthen existing programs. We enroll and train young men and women from local villages to implement the programs. Being local village members, they have a greater stake in their community’s  development and are more effectively able to enlist and mobilize local communities.
